QE2 says goodbye to the British Isles, hello to Dubai
The legendary QE2 is in the process of undertaking a farewell tour of the British Isles before heading off to a well deserved retirement in Dubai. The Queen already bade farewell to the ship named in her honour in June.
The BBC reports that the passenger liner will visit the Isle of Man as part of a farewell
that also takes in Belfast, Cork, Liverpool, Clyde, Southampton, New York, Boston, Quebec City, Edinburgh and Newcastle amongst others.
After more than 40 years of service the QE2 will be retired on 28 November to be converted into a hotel moored permanently at the Palm Jumeirah in Dubai by new owners Dubai World who paid $100m (£55m) for the vessel.
During her 41 years at sea, the 70,000-tonne liner has broken records, transported troops and royalty, travelling over 5.6 million nautical miles, carrying over 2.5 million passengers and crossing the Atlantic more than 800 times.
