Things for kids to do in Dubai

The Independent has a great piece on the often overlooked subject of things to do in Dubai for kids.

As in most of the Mediterranean and Eastern world, children are very important in Arab culture, and Dubai boasts a plethora of child-friendly attractions. In addition to this many hotels have children’s clubs with supervised play areas, video games and organised activities.

One example of this is The Jumeirah Beach Hotel‘s newly refurbished Sinbad’s Kids Club which offers a wide array of activities including arts and crafts, drama and sports in its boat style surroundings

Outside the hotel is The Wild Wadi water park, where for the 195 dirhams adult or 165 children’s admission fee you get access to thirty water rides, lots of lifeguards, and several on site restaurants.

Still on an aquatic theme is the Aquaventure water park at the newly opened Atlantis The Palm with 65,000 marine creatures and an array of water slides. You can visit the water park, its beach and the Lost Chambers Atlantis-themed aquarium even if you’re not a guest at the hotel.

For a desert city there certainly seems to be a lot of water flowing in Dubai.

If you’re sick of all that water you could try a desert safari, with a sunset Jeep ride across the dunes, camel spotting, a BBQ and traditional entertainment all for 320 dirhams per adult and 290 dirhams per child.

It’s only a small step from sand to snow so if you’ve got 300 dirhams per adult and 240 dirhams per child to spare why not get the kids on the slopes at Ski Dubai, the largest indoor snow park in the world with 22,500 metres of artificial piste for skiers of all abilities?

Dubai is an expensive place so if you don’t have much left over head for Children’s City (website in Arabic only) which only charges 40 dirhams entrance for a family of four. It’s filled with interactive exhibits, about nature, space travel, culture and history.

What venues, attractions and activities would you recommend for kids in Dubai?
